Cutting down on plastic bags

Purchasing plastic bags is a significant expense for the Foodshare charity. So to reduce that, and trying to be more ‘green’, we have taken steps to greatly reduce the number of plastic bags we give out.
At the foodbank we have started putting the contents of food bags, including fresh/frozen items, into trays and crates for people to pack into their own bags.
The next step is to start using paper or compostable bags for the fruit & veg,  and for the supplies we send out to other locations for collection.  While the unit cost of those is higher, we will be using far fewer bags overall so it’s affordable.
Pleased we can reduce our own operating costs and our environmental impact 😊
